Bad Habits
You can add bad habits to distractions etc.
Happened over 30 years ago so the scar has healed and the nerves have grown back.
For some strange reason I had a habit of gently feeling the cutting edge of my hand plane every so often.
Just to check for sharpness I would lift it from the workpiece every so often and run the ball of my thumb gently across the edge.
Didn't look, just felt the edge.
Then the wife gave me the electric hand planer that I had always wanted, a nice new Makita.
Need to know more?
Needless to say I no longer have that habit.
But I did gave a very smooth end on a slightly shortened thumb.
Regards
Bob

Almost brings tears to your eyes.
Timely reminder that all machinery can bite if we are a little casual.
On a lighter note, you can't be accused of being loose with the truth if you say that something sticks out like a sore thumb.
Hope you heal quickly.
