I am a year 11 student (the only girl in my woodwork class) what are dowling joints better than other joints? Thank you for your help - I am still learning all about these kinds of things. Thanks Cassie

Cassie, welcome.. Dowled joints may not be better than other joints, they may be however more suitable to the application than other types of joints.
As your woodwork teacher wll tell you there are many different types of joints you can use. each has its own specific strengths. the big secret is knowing when to use a particular joint and then HOW to construct it.
Keep asking questions here, the "oldies" here are an untapped mine of information.I try and do new things twice.. the first time to see if I can do it.. the second time to see if I like it

Welcome Cassie,
We've discussed the merits and applications of the various joints on numerous occassions on this board. I did a search 'dowel' and 'mortice' and came up with this post.
Search and ye shall find.
