    Default Cat Climbing Tower/Tree

    Hi again

I feel liked I haved lived on these forums the last few days )

My wife has recently got two kittens.

They are pretty cute and she would like me to build a cat climbing tower as shown in the attached file.

I have looked a fair bit on the net but the info is not really what I am after.

I plan on making the base out of something heavy such as MDF.

The poles I plan on using PVC pipe if it is strong enough.

The places where they will hide and sit etc I plan to use plywood.

I will then cover everything with carpet so that they can scratch their claws on it to their hearts content.

My question is, how would you join the PVC to the plywood and MDF?

    Any ideas, cheers

The one's I've made have used ply or mdf for the flats (my preference is for 9-12mm ply depending on where in the unit it's going to be used) and for round uprights I've used treated pine copper logs. You can also wrap the logs with manilla for a different texture. I used a couple of cheap hinges for the ramps which saved stuffing around with angles and blocks. I just used 75-100m large hex drive screws to hold the whole thing together.

I put a pic of the last one I made for our cat which has received a lot of use
It's only a mistake if you don't learn from it.

Simple cut Circles out say 45mm Radiata to the Inside Diameter of the pipe.
Attach the round blocks to the base board then screw the pvc into the Radiata
    Just do it!

    Kind regards Rod

I was just thinking, I will need to cut out around 30 circles, as each length of PVC will require 2 circles.....

hmmm this is starting to become bigger than I thought lol, oh well more time in the shed )

I am going to visit carpet shops next week and see if I can grab offcuts to wrap the PVC and plywood in.

I am either thinking staples or some kind of epoxy to secure the carpet...

Anyone done anything similar? if so what technique and or what adhesive did you use?

    Cheers
