    Question Cat enclosure

I have been asked to build a cat enclosure. Any suggestions on what timber to use or not use. Would treated pine be a problem? Any help appreciated.

By enclosure, do you mean a cat run?

If so, every one I have ever seen, and I have seen heaps of them, has been made of metal (wire mesh.)

    Handyjack,
with no experience at all I think any wood that you would use for normal outdoor stuff would be OK. I doubt that most cats would chew into a permapine post which was part of a cat cage, any more than they would a pergola. (Obviously can't rule out the rare looney cat that might)

    Torb,
A friend of mine had her whole back yard done (it wasn't a big yard). The guys that did it used a plastic coated wire about 5mm dia as a "frame" strung aroound to anything convenient above the fence line and covered the lot with what looked like a black bird netting. That was their normal method apparently. Seemed to work fine and didn't look as bad as I just described it.

    Regards

Depending on what you have to do, you might find that purchasing a cat enclosure like this is more cost effective. I've dealt with this company and they're very good, in fact just finished a large custom cat enclosure. But as to timber, yes, treated pine is OK.

I bought a large avery and linked it to the house in a run. I'm looking to build another area down the small side of the house but that will only be enclosing the top and one end, rest is secure

I will be using treated pine
It's only a mistake if you don't learn from it.

    Thank you for your replies.
The frame will be timber as that is where my skill lies with mesh attached. The top, part of which is an existing structure, has been requested to be shade cloth. I also need to make up a gate - did one a couple of years ago for a chicken coop so this should not be much different except new materials.

I recently made a cat tower.

Took way longer than I thought, next time I will just buy one..

Is a lot bigger job than I had planned, especially with the tunnels and everything I did and carpeting everything.
