Chair
Finally have my first chair almost finished after months of trial and error, brain strain and procrastination.
Here is some pics. The first pic shows my first back rest, ended up scrapping it to go for better comfort. It isn't really all that comfortable though. I'll make a few tweaks and changes, and hopefully try to make six more and a dining table which ought to finish off the last of my wood pile.

Chair
I really like the final design. Looks like it should be comfortable for a non cushioned chair. What sort of timber is it? What did you finish it with?

That is a nice looking chair, have you thought about having a larger gap between the top and second back rest. So as you can grab the chair to pull it out, or push it in.

Be very careful Spongey. I made a table and six and vowed never to make another chair - it took me so long. But, it is a bit addictive and I am thinking of how I might tweak my design in the service of more elegance. You might find yourself making chairs for ever. Looking at your chair I think you probably suffer the same fault as I suffer - over worry about strength and durability as the expense of slenderness and elegance. I am psyching myself up to try a much lighter chair even to the point of risking a breakage. But you have a really nice chair there already and one that will be very functional.

The wood is white oak. I haven't finished it yet, I'll probably finish it with tung oil, but I might change my mind.
