Thread: Chair

I really like the final design. Looks like it should be comfortable for a non cushioned chair. What sort of timber is it? What did you finish it with?

That is a nice looking chair, have you thought about having a larger gap between the top and second back rest. So as you can grab the chair to pull it out, or push it in.

Be very careful Spongey. I made a table and six and vowed never to make another chair - it took me so long. But, it is a bit addictive and I am thinking of how I might tweak my design in the service of more elegance. You might find yourself making chairs for ever. Looking at your chair I think you probably suffer the same fault as I suffer - over worry about strength and durability as the expense of slenderness and elegance. I am psyching myself up to try a much lighter chair even to the point of risking a breakage. But you have a really nice chair there already and one that will be very functional.

The wood is white oak. I haven't finished it yet, I'll probably finish it with tung oil, but I might change my mind.

I might do that. From the behind, the back rest seams a little bulky. I think it will look lighter and more open that way as well.

Your right, the table and six would take me a long time. What I would rather do is just make another chair with a different design, but what good is one dining chair? Maybe I'll wait until I can afford the domino.
