The table is finished and the disappointment at not getting the cushion has returned.....!
Mind you, 'home' is happy that a long promised house warming gift has suddenly appeared.
The (cr*ppy mobile phone) pic hasn't done justice to the finish. The oil finish has made the Australian red cedar glow and the the surfaces are silky smooth to the touch. The top and legs both have areas of fiddleback and chatoyance that invite touch.
I hope my girls don't see it!

Looks a long hall table with long legs to match some of the colour has come through. Maybe a better pic when in place. Now you deserve that Fathers Day present.

Rain drove me back into the shed and the soft shed light gave a better chance of a reasonable picture.

Keen eyed viewers may note the legs, which were extras cut for the chairs, the apron, which is EXACTLY the same section as used on the chairs and the finish .... yup, same as the chairs!
waste-not-want-not?

Fletty,
Will you need stretchers (??) between the legs to prevent twist and/or bow?
I ask because I have a couple of hall tables purchased some years ago that now look like an old cowboy that has spent way too long in the saddle.Glenn Visca

Yes, OK, that was me waiting outside the upholsterer's early this morning! I made the cushion frame and the upholsterer has fitted webbing, 50mm foam and a piece of covering he had laying around. Since getting home I have sat in the chair, confirmed the height of the lumbar support and fitted the back assembly in its final position ... but only with dry dominos. I can't do the final assembly until the crest rail carving is done. I still have to make a decision on some trim that fits under the aprons but at least I can now get on and get the next 5 to the same stage.

The slats so far are only glued into the bottom support and can slide in the upper so I still don't know how much support and/or give they will have until they are finally glued at both ends. I'll also have to find a way to make them match as they are being glued?

Not much to report this weekend .... other than I am sitting on the chair to type this !
Having one chair get ahead of the rest was necessary but there can be a price to pay. I had tried to make 6 of everything as I went along BUT a stocktake today showed that I was short on a few components and missing all of one!

It is a pain to set up, cut and dress only one item but at least I now have all that I can make for the next 5.
I am out of timber for the rear legs so now I will HAVE to go to Rollands Plains next weekend ?

Ladies and Gentlemen, may I introduce......
Ladies and Gentlemen,
May I introduce to you Ellen, my great great grandmother......., or at least the chair named after her!
chair0ct02.jpg chairoct01.jpg chairoct03.jpg chairoct04.jpg
I don't quite know how but Magnus, my great great grandfather, was going to be first but somehow Ellen snuck ahead of him? All 8 chairs will be named after my ancestors and given to my daughters so I guess I should add another "great" for them. The first 6 are dining chairs and I now have all of the components finished for them and, if they are the same for number 7, office chair, and number 8, a rocking chair, they are made as well. I now have to make the remaining 7 cushion frames and get all 8 covered in leather and I still need to decide whether I do or don't fit heavy beading on the bottom of the aprons?
It feels nice to make progress again,
