The shed was erected yesterday and this morning I assembled the Triton bandsaw.
Unfortunately, the bottom door catch was lying in the bottom of the box and part of the fence is also broken, but I'm in the process of chasing replacements.
I'm about to order the timber for my bench which is the next order of business..
I know you believe you understand what you think I wrote, but I'm not sure you realize that what you just read is not what I meant.

Wouldwood,
Glad to see the shed is ready for work. Sorry I didn't see this thread earlier but I was away for August and September. Being away is great but the jobs to do pile up in the meantime and I've been slow to catch up on things..Knowing your spirit and your talent I, like the rest of us here, look forward to viewing your work.

Thanks Jerry, much appreciated.
If you and your lathe managed to get yourselves down here, I could give you a couple of days work!
Actually, I'm getting a lathe as soon as possible (sorry ), which in reality won't be for a while as the Minister for Transport's time is at a premium and I want to try before I buy.
I've decided I am going to make a wooden twin-screw vice for the bench after all, but realistically it will have to wait until I get the lathe to turn the screws. I've already bought an iron vice, so I'll bolt it to the front of the bench until I make the twin screws and then I'll relegate it to tail vice duties at the end of the bench.
The house is full of hand and power tools awaiting their new homes, but the bench and some storage must come first..
I know you believe you understand what you think I wrote, but I'm not sure you realize that what you just read is not what I meant.
Regards, Woodwould.

Actually, it was while as the Minister for Works about twelve years ago that she took herself off to a traditional cabinetmaking course. She was later seconded to the Department of Trade & Industry and oversaw my shop for a while too, so she's no stranger to the sharp end of a tool... so-to-speak.
And as the current Minister for Development & Planning she recently encouraged me to have the new shed erected. This morning she noted an attractive oportunity in the papers and negotiated a friendly take-over bid on another woodworker's assets and returned home with the spoils. After which she went out to pick up some lunch and returned with almost $300 worth of sandpaper, glue, sanding belts and bolts and screws for my new bench.
The Minister doesn't require much encouragement in the workshop department..
I know you believe you understand what you think I wrote, but I'm not sure you realize that what you just read is not what I meant.

'Pearls amongst swine' is more frequently quoted around here, but yes, a rare find indeed.
Tea Lady is now going to turn the vice screw blanks for me, which I thought would be OK in Vic Ash/Tassie Oak. I cut some threads in a length of 19mm Vic Ash/Tassie Oak dowel this afternoon and some of the threads broke off across the grain along a feint gum vein. I think the timber is far too coarse.
I'm considering (in order of preference and of course, subject to availability) Sycamore, Maple, European Beech, Cherry, Walnut and S. American or Fijian Mahogany. I am familiar with these timbers, however, I would really like to use an Australian timber. I'm sure I've had a similar conversation on a thread here recently, though it didn't turn up in several searches. Can somone recommend an Aussie timber that turns well, is close grained, stable (more like cheese than chalk) and available in 90mm x 90mm?.
I know you believe you understand what you think I wrote, but I'm not sure you realize that what you just read is not what I meant.
Regards, Woodwould.
