You're not the only one holed up on account of the heat, I've not quite recovered from the sudden onset of summer just after Xmas. Usually, it's more gradual, not this mild spring then 12 days or so of maxima 32+.

The wood in my shed should be nicely dried

Maybe I could auction it on these forums with the proceeds going to my, or the winning bidder's, chosen charity? Hmmm FFT.

That's another possibility, though I would imagine most people would expect prizes to be new goods.

the current one wasn't new - two restored hand planes.

Though to be fair, "used cheapo nail gun" doesn't quite have the same ring to is as "restored hand plane"

    Cheers,

My point exactly. I think I'll drop it in the bin as space is at a premium. The compressor is another worry, but I quite like it for dusting the place down - and winding the dog up.

Well! I'd call that a necessary piece of equipment then.

Just an update on the bench: I recently bought some slabs of European Ash (Fraxinus excelsior) and as it's supremely tough and elastic, what better timber to use for the tommy bars for the vice screws. They certainly beat the former Bunny's-best-dowel-and-masking-tape-knob incarnations!

Nice work Woodwould, love the end-caps. What have you sealed them with?

    Thanks Groggy!

The bars are in the raw at present, but I'll brush a light coat of my 'handle brew' (oil and wax dregs that I collect in a jar and apply to tool handles as required) and let them do their thing. I'd guess that in about a month of use, they'll be well sealed and glowing nicely.
