Where to get cheap good sandpaper (online?)
Just like to hear suggestions of good places to get cheap sandpaper (or wet and dry), basically in sheets and rolls, in semi-bulk.
What I mean is for sheets in packs of 10-20 or something, and rolls (for 60, 80, 120 grit etc) in about the biggest rolls you get from the hardware.
I have seen what appears to be good prices on ebay (with good feedback) and have done a little search around on the forum (sorry if this has been asked a hundred times before)...
basically I wanna stop getting ripped off by the Mitre10 up the road, and if there is a good cheap online supplier, where buying in semi-bulk is worthwhile, then that would be ideal.
So, where do you all get yours?
Cheers,
Hans.

Chinese crap... you get what you pay for
Quality costs 3 times as much, but lasts 5 times.
I see your from Melbourne, ring Magnetic Abrasives and get quality for a fraction more in terms of value for $$$$Last edited by RETIRED; 13th September 2007 at 05:49 PM.

Thanks Lignum, I'll check out magnetic abrasives,
about the ebayers,
The second guy I linked to who only sells the packs of wet and dry assumabely is selling a chinese product,
but the first one, The Sandpaper Man, appears to sell many different legitimate branded products, Norton etc, made in Canada, Switzerland, etc...
the feedback for the second is 100% positive and the first, almost.
Just wondering on prices and stuff too.

I've bought Norton wet and dry from the Sandpaper man on eBay. Exactly the same as the Norton I can get at the hardware but about half the price. Good experience.

thanks for suggestions guys.
Good to hear that about the Sandpaper Man on ebay. The feedback online looks overwhelmingly good, and there are a few products I might just pick up off him.

I just had a quick look at Sandpaper Man's disc products. I don't think the Makita branded products are much more from my local Mitre 10.
In fact I remember comparing the cost of the Makita branded discs with the Norton brand and the Makita branded stuff was cheaper and I didn't have to buy in large quantities.
I also checked out the Festool branded abrasives and found (more than somewhat surprisingly) that they were also reasonably priced.
It's been a little while since I last checked but i doubt it has changed that much.

I just found this site - it is a surfboard making website, and they sell Norton Dry, Norton Wet & Dry, and Indasa. $32.45 for 50 packs of Norton Wet & Dry (all one grit though), $68.75 for 50 packs of Indasa (all one grit). They have Norton in grits from 320 to 2000 and Indasa from 80 to 240. Seems like a good price to me. Freight would be extra I guess. I'll be trying them out.

Hi Hans,
Stick to brand names. I recently tried bunnies elcheapo brand.. never again. In some cases I use used belts from my 4 inch belt sander, cut them to size for free hand and sheet sander. The backing is so much tougher and they last for ages with regular hits with the compressor.
cheers,
conwood

Hans,
Commercial interest disclosed up front here but check us out.
Just be sure you know what you mean by good and cheap because that's usually a tall order.
We've just added Italian thin cloth back in 150mm rolls and Italian velcro in 300mm rolls and plenty else besides.

Thanks for all the replies everyone,
lots of options here...
Mike, yeah, good and cheap may be a bit of a misnomer,
I guess what I mean is good sandpaper at good prices...
not sure which way I will go yet- got a few items I want to buy before I stock up on sandpaper.
