    Default Cheese Board

    Hi Folks

I am working a small whole log slab of Huon pine into a cheese board, but it has knot holes and some splits in it. As is is to be used for food do I need to fill these ? and what can I use?I tried Cabots wood putty but this is not going hard?and I will want to wash the board after use. I was intending to oil it with grape seed oil. I need help PLEASE!!!

If it's just for cheese and similar foods that don't tend to run/drip into the cracks it may not need filling (assuming they aren't gaping holes), but if you want to fill them I'd suggest epoxy resin of some sort or possibly Agnew's Water Putty.

I'd also try to avoid washing the board if possible - a wipe with a damp cloth should be sufficient.

    G'Day "Makka",
I too would recomment "clear epoxy resin" for the larger cracks & holes.
I used some on a table and it added depth to the finished article.
Looking forward to the WIP photos.
    Cheers, crowie

Definitely needs filling, too many nasties can hide in there, even though only "hard" foods may be the only things cut up. Dairy produce is a good harbour of "bellyaches".

As said previously, epoxy would be the go.

Thanks guys, I have purchased the clear epoxy resin and am confident now that that is the go. I will try to post pictures as soon as I can. Thanks for all your help
