Cheese board & knives
I have a friend who is getting married on the weekend and was asked to make a cheeseboard as their present from us. I had some pretty special ideas which included drawers for the knives and all sorts of Gucci gear but the sample pic they sent through was pretty much a lump of wood.
After a quick search of my stash I found a pretty rough bit of Sassy which I thought had potential. A quick clean up and removed the knot, sealed the back and half filled with resin waited for it to harden then dropped in a 2014 $1 coin which I minted at The Mint. Topped up the hole with more resin then cleaned up the board to finish. A few coats of Kunos Oil then off it went to Sydney with a friend to be engraved.
While it was off being engraved I made up the cheese knives to go with it also in Sassy.
The last one in the series is one I made for myself out of Sheoak just to see what worked. Much longer than I had intended but if we have any visiting Samurai they will feel very comfortable wielding that bad boyIt's only a mistake if you don't learn from it.

That looks great. I especially liked the idea and wording, of the engraving.
Can I ask who did the engraving?

An interesting way to incorporate the knot-hole!
Might've been an idea to also embed a leather thong tied in a bow around the coin... so they could say it commemorated "when they tied the knot."
(Sorry, I couldn't resist. I'll go back to my corner now... )
