    Default Chest of drawers WIP

I've finally focused my attention back onto a chest of drawers for the wife.
The top was joined up almost 2 years ago, and has been "settling" in the corener ever since.

The whole thing is made from recycled rimu.
The top is made of old barge boards, legs ripped from old 4x2 studs, ths sides from old flooring, and the drawer bodies from weather boards machined down to useable strips, F jointed into panels.

Lots of work has gone into the recovery process, but its only once you start to assemble that you see the fruits of your labour..

Nice, there is always a sense of satisfaction when using what is considered rubbish and seeing a nice piece of furniture at the end.

Will keep looking at this one.

    Thanks

Dimensions are about 1420mm wide, 900mm high, and 450 deep.

    Drawer bodies are 600x400, with 2 @ 170mm and 2 @ 190mm high.

Nice looking chest, and a great job matching boards considering the wide range of source material. So often things look a bit mish-mash when you've gathered a lot of timber together, but yours looks very consistent. What plans for the handles?

    Thanks waveink.

I'm not sure how i like the top right drawer face. it may get swapped out once the lacquer goes on, if it doesnt look good enough.
This one is for my wife, and will go at the end of my bed, and I will see it every day, so it needs to be good!

The drawer faces and top all came from barge boards from one demolition top, so probably also from one mill , and maybe even one plantation ?

As for handles, swmbo has chosen this
Windsor Brass - Full Product Range - Designer Handle 96mm

I have 1 sample, will test fit and let her see how it looks before ordering enough for this, the bedside tables and tallboy (yet to be made)

Is making your own handles an option? It adds class to your work.

Hmm, i'm not normally a huge fan of timber handles, although now that you have suggested it, I have looked and found some fairly cool design ideas.
I think it needs the contrast of the metal handles to keep the modern look.

Right, finally got to putting a finish on the lowboy.
I ended up going with Danish Oil, with wax over the top.

Looks pretty good, just waiting for the handles to arrive, and it can go in the bedroom!
