    Default Chinese 15" thicknessers?

    Hey guys

What's the consensus on the Chinese thicknessers these days? Like this $2000 15" Carbatec one here ?

Are they much chop? Or am I better saving another couple of grand and getting something made in Taiwan?

Just buy one, or look for secondhand (hard), the extra couple of grand would be better spent on a good sander and other gear you need.

Spend anything extra on a spiral cutter block.

Oh okay. So they're not terribly built?....will actually last a long time if maintained properly?

Our woodwork club has the older version with a spiral cutter head. It gets abused with a lot of timber being processed- and yet it keeps going!

Not sure what the new model is like, but if I needed a thicknesser, I would seriously consider one.

This similar machine from Carbatec is another alternative with the motor below. it is very useful to return timber for another pass by sliding it across the top, particularly with longer lengths of wood.

Any money saved could go on a spiral cutter or even another set of blades. Essential with a thicknesser is a dust collector if you don't already have one. There is always something to spend your money on!

This one from the machinery house was made in Taiwan. They are out of stock right now. Its less than 2 grand for straight knives. Add another grand for spiral cutters.
