Laminate\formica alternative
Hello all
I am wanting to build a Aquarium cabinet and the design i like is the ADA design, the same as this one
Building ADA - DIY Aquarium Projects - Aquatic Plant Central
As you can see it was made from Plywood and laminated with formica, i thought great this should be pretty easy until i priced gloss black laminate\formica (Laminex)
I was wondering if anyone knows of a decently price place for this product, or is there a board available already laminated with a nice back or gloss black?
alternatively what the best way to get a great finish with ply
All suggestions will be very much appreciated

Maybe worth going to a kitchen maker and asking them if they could laminate it for u. Laminate sheets are usually a coupla hundred but most factorys should have plenty of offcuts. Shouldn't cost u too much

If polly is too dear, use car paint.

i have recently been looking at doing a similar sort of thing for a fish tank cabinet too, but in gloss white.
the best option would be for a kitchen cabinet maker to do it in poly. The best options i have found so far
www.sydneydoors.com.au/
they can do custom size panels in poly. just send them the diemension and they will quote it. Probably the easiest way
Spray Painting | Kitchen Doors | French Polishing | Polyurethane | Poly Doors | Industrial Painting | Spray-Tek (NSW) Pty Ltd
you make up and supply the panel and they just paint it. due to the small qty it wasn't worth the effort, as they have a minimm charge.
let me know if you find other cheaper alternatives.

Depending on where you live, a small local panel beaters may be prepared to do a quick job at their convenience for not too much if you have done all the prep work. If you want it super waterproof, you could use West System or BoteCote epoxy - both can have pigment added, and have that spray painted.
