Thread: Choice of wood to build cupboard door

Hi all,

I am building a cupboard under the stairs in our lounge and have hit a bit of a dilemma over how to make the (inset) door.

The cupboard frame is in place now, and the door frame is 1150mm high by 745mm wide, and is made of 44mm square softwood.

The wife would prefer a single door, even though it would be quite wide. All I can think of to get this width would be MDF or plywood? (I would prefer a single flat panel, rather than building a framed door.)

The problem I see with MDF is using concealed hinges, which may be difficult to fit onto the width of the frame (~30mm left after the 18mm of MDF).

Are there options I am missing? How would you go about making a single door for an aperture of this size?
