Chris Schwarz: Melbourne classes
Is anyone considering doing one of Chris Schwarz's classes next year?
MGFW: 2013 Master Class Series
The Anarchist's tool chest class would be a dream to do. Box Hill is only 10 minutes from Mum's place in Doncaster so I got accommodation sorted.
The only issue is getting time off work and the money...

The cost for the tool chest course is $1,760 held over five days in a row from 0900 to 1700 each day, allowing for 1 hour for meal breaks (maybe) that would make it 7 hours of tuition a day or 30 hours.
$1,760 divided by 30 hours is $58.66 per hour, which, when worked out this way, seems reasonable, add the fact that all materials are provided, then it doesn’t seem too expensive.
I do realise that no matter which way you say it, it is still $1,760 but from the business perspective that I usually evaluate things, I would think it’s reasonable, especially if you consider the calibre of the teacher and where that teacher is coming from.

Couldn't have thought of a better birthday present.
So that's one spot taken for The Anarchist’s Tool Chest.

Frank.

That would be a lovely course to do.
Now....if I could just get work to allow me the time to do it?

I could draw up a tool box and anyone would be welcome to a copy free of charge... or am I missing something?
.
I know you believe you understand what you think I wrote, but I'm not sure you realize that what you just read is not what I meant.
Regards, Woodwould.

Which course?
Those master classes look amazing, I would be really keen to done one, would have to get top level clearance from the finical adviser though.
Just looking at the course outline I get the impression that the Anarchist’s Tool Chest course is an intermediate/advanced type course although it says open to all levels. And the Hammer in Hand course may be better suited to beginner or in my case hack. Can anyone shed some light on this or would both courses suit someone like me?
Background about me if it helps, I have built a the odd piece of furniture, kids bed, shelf and that is about it. Made some simple kids toys as well, so I'm really only just starting on my woodwork journey. I'm getting into hand tools, have a plane to two, a couple of saws and a few chisels. Nothing to fancy. Looking a making a coffee table next and then a chest of draws or dresser.
Cheers
Justin

I'm in
I have just booked in to do the dovetailed school box, hammer in hand course, so I'm super excited.
I should also give a to both Jacqueline and Alastair from the Melbourne Guild of Fine Woodworking, my email regarding course outline and suitability was answered promptly by Jacqueline who put me in contact with Alastair. Alastair then called me the next day and we had a good chinwag, he more than answered my questions and offered alot of advice. So with the advice considered and the recommendations, I booked in. More than happy too.
If you are thinking about it then you may need to get in quick there are 2 places left on the tool chest master class and now 4 on the school box (hammer in hand) one. Courses and Vacancies can be found here
Hope to see you there
