Default Cladding for a timber column to make wider and give a rendered look?

I am building a pergola with 90mm square treated pine posts 2100mm tall, but I want to bulk these up architecturally to make them about 200-300mm squares and give them a rendered look.

I have tossed around ideas such as :
    1. architectural column casings at www.ezybuild but these get to be around $300+ each so looking for something a bit more cost effective.
    2. packing with timber and blue boarding them.
    3. packing with timber and using some weather board planks and gap fill and render them

But I am interested in any other ideas on what I can do to achieve this effect? Does anyone know of any cheaper square mouldings that I can get a hold of? eg. thinking of plastic or metal 90 degree mouldings that I can glue or screw together to form a 'column'?

    Thanks!

Pack it out with treated pine, cut 90x35mm to 270mm long and lap join them around the post. Diagonal nail them to the post with a nail gun, you will need at least 3 on the post top mid bottom.
Cut the blue board at 270 wide and screw it to the packers, grab some fine chicken wire(new stuff...) and wrap the post neatly then screw on some metal cornice.
Mix up your render and slop it on
