Clamps
Just information sharing. I wanted to show off my new best friends in the shed, some clamps I knocked up from an advertisement. Saved three hundred bucks a piece and they work a treat!

Fantastic EGG. I've always looked at them and drooled, but buckled at the price. I've also looked at the kits you can buy (basically just the clamp bits and you BYO hardwood) which some alot more reasonably priced.
How well do they work in keeping the boards flat while glueing?
Really interested to see more info on them too.
Good stuff.
Nathan.

These clamps were based on similar items shown in Australian Woodworker Sept/Oct 08. I simply used two lengths of 50x25 steel for the legs ( of the two sets I made one 700 and the other 1200 long ). All held together with 5/16 bolts. The wind up screw for tension is 5/16 all thread. The scissor action is some 25mm flat bar with centres drilled 80mm apart. Both legs have holes 100mm apart along their length. If I were to have my time again I may consider using 3/8 all thread for the tensioning screw, having said that I have had no probs with them as yet. Certainly makes breadboards and panelling a lot simpler.

Crackajack EGG! When you say that you did them from an advert...do you have a link? From Crowie's second post maybe you have some plans or something?

Thanks for sharing, they look great.
What is the block the wind up screw passes through made of? It looks like a nut is welded to it.Cheers, Glen

Hi Glen, nothing to mind blowing. The "block" is just some of the same 50x25mm tube the legs were made out of. I just welded some flat on the ends to strengthen them. And you are correct I welded a nut inside to tension with. Agricultural but effective.
