Is everyone closing up
I'm not sure if it is just bad timing but there doesn't appear to be anyone in Australia making handmade marking tools at present. I have looked at both Chris Vesper and Colen Clenton and neither of them seem to have any stock of any of their tools and been that way for a while. Does anyone know if there are more items coming or are there other makers here that I don't know about. I looked at Blue Spruce who have reasonably priced items but the shipping is horrendous.

I've been getting around to putting a batch of marking gauges on 'marketplace' for about a year. I only make a couple every now & then when I have scraps of suitable nice wood & they've been building up for over a year, so if there's a pent-up demand I better get my act together & post some. There's a couple of new saws that need a home, too. I'll try & get them up by the weekend....

Seems I may have jumped the gun here as a few of Colen Clenton's squares are now available again after there not being any available for some time.

I have bought a lot of Ian's tools and they are excellent both in quality and price. By many I mean maybe twenty or thirty items altogether both marking gauges and saws and also a few marking knives.

I can also happily attest to Ian's marking gauges and marking knives. I consider myself lucky to have been able to lay my hands on them, and they truly are a joy to use, and to look at - the quality is excellent.

Nope, they're just adding to the misery, it started well before I attacked the trees. The diagnosis is a torn tendon, which isn't amenable to any quick fix, so I'm trying to take it easy & let nature do its thing (I'm cutting the pine into smaller pieces that are easy to lift).....

nature is a great healer I have a detached tendon in my right shoulder and refused to have an op that was only 30 to 50 percent successful and after about 7 years i'm still going just put up with discomfort occasionally, limits lifting power but what the heck still able to do most things.

Best of luck with it Ian. I did both shoulders through repetitive physical work over many years and I avoided surgery for a long time until the pain won in the end. I had one surgically repaired but the other was torn so badly that it does not impinge any longer and is now pain free. The biggest issue with the op is the 12 month recovery time if you are involved in physical activity for a job. For a desk job a few months might be enough for a recovery time.
