Last time I looked I could see the lead furnace in my shed but the next closest thing is the welder. In my elastic sided steel caps and shorts a small gobby of molten metal falls neatlydown the gaping front of the boot. I shakes my leg which makes the metal works its way down between my foot and the woolen sock leaving an nice little burn almost all the way to my instep!. At least one good thing about lacky sides is ya can gettem off quick.

Of course the stoopid thing here is I should probably not be welding in shorts!

I wear a pair of denim carhartt overalls. Caps off to the yanks, they make good workwear, and besides, yakka dont make denim overies anymore.

If you had of had no boots on the hot bit would have just hit your foot and rolled off with less pain. I knew there was a reason I didn't like boots. I saw a bloke cutting an exhaust off a car and a hot bit went into his overalls at the neck, travelled down and lodged in his crotch. he was the only one who didn't think it was funny.

Then when you go work in an Aluminium smelter, lace ups are out and velcro is in.

Velcro just doesnt last it cant handle the environment, our boots are specially made for us, the tongue is continuous and comes to the top rim of the boot and our overalls cover the laces. Laces are pure cotton.
They also have extended protection above the steelcap for your mid foot... a foot breaks easy with a lead ingot or jackhammer dropped on it!

The auguement between Velcro and laces is irrelevant because if molten metal is spilt on your foot bad enough they cut the boot off anyway and velcro will melt before pure cotton will burn, in the case of my fellow worker his foot just pulled out leaving a sock of skin in the boot, poor bugger.

Is there an Australian source of Carr-Hart overalls? I know they are available from the US, but all the places on the 'Net I could find will only ship UPS or not at all.
