Clubs in Victoria (greater melbourne)
Hi,
Anyone here a member of a woodworking club in Victoria?
Specifically, interested in the Eltham and Waverley clubs listed on the Victorian Woodworker's Association website
Wood Clubs VIC
I tried to email the rep for Eltham, but mail bounced...
Waverley looks really good too.
I'm just looking to do a few furniture projects and want to get back into woodworking as a bit of a weekend warrior.
Problem is, I live in an apartment where it's really not possible to setup any sort of workshop, even if it were a Triton Workcentre in the garage.
Looked at a few community college short courses, but haven't seen anything entirely appropriate for me (I'm not a total beginner nor a seasoned wood-man).
I think really what I need is access to a workshop and maybe a bit of advice from time to time from someone with experience.
Reading around a few forum threads sounds like a woodworking club and a few good instructional books is a nice way to get started instead of buying hundreds or thousands of dollars of gear that I have no room for.
Sounds about right to you, or have I got the wrong idea about what happens at the clubs?

woodwork clubs
Welcome to the forum Rogerwilco,
I don't know about wooddwork clubs in Melbourne but I attend "furniture making" at Kangan Batman TAFE in Broadmeadows. It is a 9 week short course that runs every term. The cost is $270 for a term and you get to design and make your own projects, 1 night a week. You have expert advice on hand as well as a good range of "Big boys toys" available. I am pretty sure that there is also a course at the Essendon campus as well.
I find them quite valuable and under guidance have expanded my skills and projects. If you want details of courses etc you can go on to their website or get back to me.
Regards,Smithy
