Default Need a clue on replacing part of built-in bathroom vanity...

    Where I'm at:
Water pipe behind bathroom vanity spring a leak. Resto crew showed up on Tuesdayday & tore the room apart. Plumber fixed the leak yesterday. House is all custom oak. Told them we need to save the vanity.
So we got the vanity out in one piece & it's now in the garage. Front is solid oak, cases are MDF. One side, toe-kick & the middle support got water damage & basically reverted to sawdust.. & the front lower corner of the side panel broke off.

    I hate MDF...

My plan is replace the side & support with 3/4 plywood. Toe-kick was 3/4 x 66 1/4 MDF with 1/8in oak veneer plywood.
Entire piece appears to be put together with panel pins (UK term for small nails that a 2yo could bend)
Pretty sure I have all the tools, but will be cutting the ply to size with a circular saw as my table saw is in storage. Got a router & bits, variety of PC nailers, clamps etc. Will remove side panel with the wiggly tool, can probably just pull the middle support off. Toe-kick is already off.

    So here's where I'm a bit clueless:
Attaching the new plywood side to the rest of it. Bottom of cabinet cupboard is MDF.. so I'm thinking I'll need a few screws to go through the ply into the MDF from the side...Is that overkill? . or I'll punch panel pins through the ply into the MDF with a nailer. The oak front seems to be attached by punching pins through the oak into the MDF.
Which method would you use?.. & assume I'll be using glue.

    Damage to MDF side:

What's left of the toe-kick... oak veneer separated from ply, ply separated from MDF...

Those panels are not MDF they are Particle Board, your insurance should just replace the entire unit from the picture the bottom of the carcase has also gone to God

Replace the whole cabinet. Build an entire new one. Easier, quicker, better.

Custom piece, company no longer in business, Local cabinet shops are all 3-6 months lead. Fastest quote so far is end of January. I'm in California, everything is all screwed up here.

Everything is all screwed up here too. But I wouldn’t try to repair that vanity* Let your insurance cover it and eat the waiting time. You might be able to get a cheap temporary replacement on craigslist or other fine online shopping sites.

    * you are going to have to get a new toe kick anyway, and you won’t be able to make accurate enough panels with a circular saw, unless its a good track saw and you hold your tongue just right.

I am waiting in line for materials to make my kitchen. Blum drawers may appear by early February.

Yep the original carcase is chipboard. Solid timber including plywood can also suffer from water damage. You should consider moisture resistant MDF. you should also consider NOT having any panel where there are services behind.
