    Default First coffee table

My first and probably last coffee table (in saying that I am working on an ottoman at present).....what an ass to build. Quite a few problems building it. You can see the glue there in the mitre joins....I thought it'd dry clear.....(it was worse, but it'll have magazines in there so I didn't care in the end).....I dropped the f-ing base and damaged it.....chipped some of the veneer in two places......all in all a total prick of a job.

Laminated birch ply for the base (which a fellow forum member helps cut on his cnc) and red heart gum veneer. Its the first time I've used veneer.

    Elill,
It looks ok to me and I would not have noticed anything the matter if you had not mentioned it. Pretty good for a first go. I cant comment on the construction as I have never had a go at vineer.
    Regards
    John

The trouble with woodwork as a hobby is almost every piece we make is a one-off. That means a constant range of learning curves and often new techniques. And lets face it, we're all too self critical of our own work!

But minor annoyances aside, that is one stunning design, well done for making it work.

I think it's very nicely made.

Nice job - and some pretty lovely veneer. Where did you get it?

    Thanks for the comments all!

I am pretty happy with it, just annoying that I damaged it during the build. If I ever did it again I'd try a mitre lock joint as I think that'd be a nicer feature on the join and hopefully lead to better alignment.

The veneer came from Briggs - Briggs Veneers - Manufacturers and marketers of quality natural timber veneer products and TrueGrain veneer products
