Default going to do a commision in Townsville

I've taken on a job to install an L-shaped slab desk up in Townsville. The client likes 'mahogany', but that's not happening in 600x40mm slabs! She would be happy with a dark coloured timber.

My questions are whether anyone is a slab supplier or knows of a supplier in the Townsville area and ideas of appropriate timber types would be good? Longest lengths are ~2100mm.
I will take a basic set of tools with me only so is there a workshop similar to Brisbane's Wood n you up that way should I need some machinery?

    Cheers
    Michael

You're a braver man than I! I don't know much about Townsville, but given its location I'd think you'd be able to get your hands on some nice Queensland Walnut. Though I don't know about the slab sizes that might be available.

    Good luck.

    Hi Mic
Qld Walnut looks nice but will blunten your tools and you will swear you have stood in dog sh_t, it's very on the nose. I would be looking for something light weight if you are working on your own too. Something more like Tassie Blackwood, not sure what FNQ has in local stuff like that.
