Community Wood Workshop/Shed Sydney Area?
I am living in a strata building in Inner Sydney where I am not able to do any building or wood work on the weekends.
Therefore I am trying to find a place in the Sydney area where I have power and potentially other tools that I don't own myself and where I am able to work on weekends.
I have been looking into Men Shed's. But these are usually only open on weekdays and therefore not an option.
I am willing to pay a membership or usage fee.
If anyone knows of a wood workshop where I can work or a men shed that is open on weekends, please let me know. Any tips are greatly appreciated.

I'm puzzled with the same question.
How wonderful would be to have a community workshop! It could of have the best dust extraction, expensive tools which not all of us can afford due to budget or space limitation. I wouldn't mind to contribute into building, managing, running one. It could have great community like-minded around it.
Personally I wouldn't bother to buy my own power tools if I would have access to such a workshop for a some monthly or annual fees.
But... As I can see there is no response for more then 2 years So I should stop dreaming.

Hornsby Mens Shed
The Shed is at 33A Sefton Road, Thornleigh. It was formerly part of the Hornsby Council depot.
It is open Tuesdays and Fridays 9 am to 2.30 pm & Saturdays 12 to 4 pm. Council wont agree to open Sundays.
It is a very comprehensive workshop and a good team. We have about 110 members.
Annual fees are $100, payable by 2, 6 monthly instalments of $50.
We have, apart from hand tools - 4 wood lathes, 4 bandsaws, Delta saw, Saw stop, thicknesser - 15", 3 drill presses, 3 routers,
2 scrollsaws, grinding machines, bobbin sander, disc/linishers,etc, etc. And yes, a good cup of tea/bikkies. PM me if you want more details. Drillit.

I just stumbled on this old thread while doing some idle research. I'm thinking about setting up a shed in my backyard in Marrickville (Sydney's inner west) in 12 months time. There are more and more apartment buildings around us with people living in them who have no access to a shed. I'm wondering if there is a way I can make my planned shed part pay for itself - and have some company. Its a 65sm building and there will be a planner/thicknesser, table saw, compound mitre saw, bandsaw, dust extractor etc. I will have to sort out insurance and that sort of stuff, but right now I'm just thinking about whether the idea has legs.

Hey Scott,
I thought of that idea too, when I was fitting out my shed. But now that I've forgotten the cost of the equipment, I couldn't imagine having to share my workshop with anyone. Having everything exactly where I left it, and having my tools handled with extreme care.

Yes, I know what you mean. I can imagine getting a bit protective. My wife has a ceramics studio that people come and use with her and she has that dilemma. The machines would need to be used when I'm around and I could lock away my personal tools. I have a lot of spare tools, though. And some people might have their own tools. That building is currently rented out, so if I turn it into a shed it would feel a bit indulgent if I didn't share it and make it pay its way.

do a search on Makerspaces groups in Sydney
there is on in Adelaide that is just the bees knees. SANE MAKERSPACE
I know of a young couple bought a campervan to travel Australia, the curtains were shoddy, so they bought a sewing machine to redo and then couldnt work out how to use it....
google search and 18 months later they start their journey with a van completely refitted cabinetry, roof lining, insulated, new curtains etc etc all done at the mentioned workshop.I would love to grow my own food, but I can not find bacon seeds
