I like the 'anything you can make from this pallet' idea - that way the design gland is given its biggest workout. As far as additions - I think we can allow stuff like hinges, magnets etc. Last time there was a pallet comp I think the guideline was that no more than 20% of the project was not from the pallet - I think we could maybe bring that down to 10%?

yer 10% is better i think, or maybe we should just allow hinges.. It would also be great if we got some friendly donations for prizes, I have a brand new copy of the woodworkers technique bible that i am happy to give away as a prize, maybe to the wooden spooner..i'm currently writing up terms and conditions now, i am using the last pallet compy t&c's as a template for this one, i hope they don't mind.

I'd imagine one major comp each year would be the best way to go. There would be more buildup and excitement for the comps if they are that bit further apart. Possibly a minor one halfway through the year also to keep the comp addicts at bay
Can't say I have many ideas about the comps themselves to offer, but they are a good community building activity and if a few of the sponsors get in on the gig and donate some good stuff as prizes then things can really get underway.

I think the idea of being able to make anything is a good one; will watch this with interest.

I was tied up with a big project last year & couldn't take part in the last pallet challenge, i'd be keen to participate this time round.

    UBeaut.forum Woodwork competition..#2?

Alrighty.. lets go with another pallet challenge...
I'll start with some rules...and folks can argue for and against....

    Rules...
    .each competitor has..

1...Raw materials....1 industrial pallet (they vary.. so photo is required) ..
    ..(find your own)
    2...Anything can be made...repeat ...ANYTHING
3... The only addition to the pallet is..Adhesive and surface finish...
4..this is the most argued about rule...so read it again.
5..read rule 4...you want to add hinges?..well..make em out of pallet nails..
6..magnets you say?...well magnetise the nails
    7...see above
    8...Alrighty...who's in?
we need a start and finish date...
I'll donate one prize ( prizes are nice to recieve and to give and don't have to be epic)
anyone willing to give a prize??.. (a piece of wood? an old tool?(postable)
..A challenge like this is GOOD BIG FUN...and should be attempted by beginners and experienced both.
    OK...comments?

what if the hokey pokey is really what it's all about?

Whooaa there or we are going to duplicate effort. Spencer and I have been drafting some terms and conditions over the weekend. We are very close to finishing them with just a couple of things for me to sort out. Spencer has also made a start on the prizes.

We've got the start and finish dates sorted and when I get a bit more info, Spencer will be able to post the Terms & Conditions of the 2011 Pallet Challenge, or the Pallet Challenge Mk II or or ....

...and dowels and buscuits allowed as well.

No worries, Underfoot. Keeping the momentum up is great

Talking of momentum, I've managed to source a copy of 500 Cabinets as a prize so with your offer (thank you) and Spencer's, we are off to a flying start.

Try and push the completion date out a bit to give us busy workaholics a chance to squeeze it in between jobs, I'd love to play.
