Default What is this composite material??

Guys wondering if you can identify this composite material. In the photo it has been used as a ceiling panel in a 1960s house. I had only even seen it before in old pin boards/ notice boards.

It is the color of MDf and is a soft fibrous material. Just wondering if it may contain nasties, like asbestos.

For some reason the photo loader pop up isn't working today, so hopefully someone knows what I'm talking about from the description.

Thanks Dj, That looks like the stuff and seems like it is safe.

I wonder if it was used instead of plaster in the roof for acoustic or thermal insulation reasons or why?

Neither, it was cheap and easy to work with.

So you would say there is no benefit to keeping it as it doesn't look as nice or finished as plaster?

Maybe it can be removed and used on the walls in the shed, then the ceiling plastered  ……that fact that it would cost money has already ruled it out but nice to plan for sunnier days.

    .....

I would not say that, DSEL.

I have it on the upper walls and ceiling of my bathroom. Well painted, it looks fine. And servicable in a hostile environment.

Weakness is its softness, but plaster also is not very tough. And who bumps the walls above 2 metres?

My position is that I would not install it again, but that it is not worth the effort to remove.
