    Default corner blocks for architraves

i am replacing the architraves and skirtings in the house and i really like the Colonial, Federation type styles where they used corner blocks or rosettes to save doing mitres (which to me makes a lot fo sense) plus they look nice. Thing is, they are dear as b****ary at Bunnings or any other place, like $8 each. I am doing all the doors and windows so that a pretty pricey effort.

Does anyone have some sort of design for these blocks that looks ok and can easily be done on a router? And what is the secret to routing a circle on a square block using a router table?

Have a look here Rosette Cutters.

    http://www.rockler.com/ecom7/product...ette%20Cutters

This is an USA site but probably available from Carbatec or similar.

These can be used in a drill press.

Rosette cutters are the go here, scubabob. But please don't try swinging something of that size in a router! You might also have to muck about with wood to find stuff that cuts cleanly at low speeds. The marked contrast between the hard and soft bits in radiata would make life a bit miserable, I imagine, and the cleaner, more even grain of Hoop or Kauri might be easier to get clean cuts in.

If you're doing a whole houseful, it's probably worth buying a cutter - looks like a cutter will cost the equivalent of 12-15 Bunnies versions, plus freaight, but if you haven't got a drill-press and time to muck around, maybe Bunnies will give you a discount on quantity?

    Yer, in your dreams.....

Cabi tech has two types one has a changeable profile knife, the other is a ground profile.

We have made comerical qtys with the cabi tec one, no problem just take it slow in the drill press and cutt the blocks square.

I don't know how import duty etc work there, but Grizzly has 10 different rosette cutters for $39.95 USD plus shipping. They have 2 more at $69.95 USD. You can look them up at www.grizzly.com

They're for use in a drill press with a vice holding the work piece. Hope that helps.
