Coupla Workbenches
A few benches done recently. The big hex benxh is 3mt from the longest points and has angled shadow boards and one of them is hinged to allow easy access under neath.
The other is a a standard bench with a 300mm (w) tool well centered and 280mm either side to work on.
The last is a frame showing the method of construction. It will find its way to the Brizzy wood show in a few days (with top on) All are made of good old Tas-Oak and finished in a few coats of linseed oil

The hexagonal one is great, wish I had one myself which I might have to rectify. Woud make a good assembly bench.

Hi Lignum,
That's great work, and a real undertaking. Maybe I missed something, but what is the hex one designed for? I'd guess a teaching purpose, and for that it'd be the ducks nutz, as one station would be visible from the all the others when demonstrating.
Thanks for posting the pics,Andy Mac

I really like the hex bench. I take it that it is "normal" height - looks rather low. But this might just be the angle. I could do with a bench that shape in the middle of the shop. If I had the room!! good luck at the Brisbane show.

If he gets it without working for it; he's a parasite; and if he accumulates it after a life time of hard work, people call him a fool who never got anything out of life."

I can see the hex bench as a food prep bench.
A kid on each side
All making custard Pies
And throwing them at each other

Andy, yep they were for a school. Four per class room. Easy to keep an eye on all the brats that way But a very good idea. And having the sides go to the groung makes cleaning up a breeze as well.
And Bob the benches are 880 in height. I was on a stool to get a clear pic of the top with the tool wells thats why it appears lower.
And Lou. the Lignubench is on the list with one million and one other things. Just not enough hours in a day But it will get done soon (Made out of Jarrah)
Must say im getting the hang of fitting vices now
And this pic below is the finished version of the frame above.

Hi Lignum,
I like the simplicity of the last pictured bench - puts a lot of the huffin' 'n puffin' about benches in perspective Some benches just need to be simple.

Lignum, being a prospective manual arts teacher, I would love to find out how they go in a class room. It would have to be a decent size wouldn't it??
Anyway, They look great and gives me a different prespective from the old square benches. thanksHave a nice day - Cheers
