In the end I did the following without lifting floor boards:
    1) Smaller roof space door jambs - took the puzzle approach - small pieces of engineered floorboard cut to shape and then wood glued on the side and silicone glued to the floor.

    2) Larger door jambs x5 - covered with a brass plate - brass cut to shape and finished, cut into door jamb, then silicon glued and filled. The one shown is the most complex.

    Doesn't look too bad.

YAY, do I win anything for suggesting the brass plate.

It looks very classy. I always noticed those shiny plate on the old bank doors in the city, thats why I suggested it.
Even if you left the space empty underneath it wasn't like anyone could actually stand on it.

Looks like job well done, now you need to polish them once a month...

A good getout of a very obvious problem.

Not only will they need a polish but whoever does the vacuuming will need to take care to avoid dents.

Well done, unusual solution to the problem.

With reference to the brass plates in banks, these were for the spring loaded self closing door mechanisms before the pneumatic or hydraulic door closers were introduced.

Yep, a good fix and looks good, even if you don't polish them and let them age they will still look ok.
