Cut Nails
I tried to add this to an old post about cut nails, But I couldn't figure out how to do it(since the post was too old) But just thought I'd add to it in case anyone does a search for "cut nails". I just returned from a trip to Goods and Chattels at Ferny Grove(Brisbane). I got exactly what I was after as far as cut nails, and saw some other interesting items too. Jim is very knowledgeable and helpful, and has a great selection. Fair prices too. I've been looking for cut nails for a while, and now I know where to find them!! Mods, please move this post if necessary.

rwbuild,
Google 'Cut Clasp Nails'. They are 'stamped' out of sheet steel (used to be cut) not made from wire.
A common/traditional use for them here in the UK is nailing skirting boards to the walls.Dragonfly

Wow! I never imagined that I'd ever see new cut nails. I have a couple of small chests of drawers assembled with those.
When I was a kid, we toured the sites of HBC Fur Trading posts & Forts across western Canada (Ellis, Batoche, Fish Creek, Last Mountain House, etc), long before they became rennovated historical sites. We had a surplus WW II mine/metal detector. Finding a "square" nail that hadn't rusted away was the highlight of any day.
Thanks for the memories.

Cut nails were used when I was a house framer or wannabe in the U.S. in the 70s to nail the bottom plate, redwood for rot resistance, to the green concrete slab. never got the hang of it.framing nails were called 16 penny sinkers , probably still are,Rossco
