Default How to cut this slab correctly?

    Gday Guys

I have had the extreme misfortune of this 50mm slab of Camphor Laurel land in my shed.

Was wondering how to cut this?

I am using my circular saw with a guide. Would like to know directionally which way to go.

I have a plan which common sense dictates to me. But the more experienced "Woodies" here may be able to tell me different.

    My plan is:

Draw a centre line down the grain of the middle finger.

Come out parralell either side at the width of the finger top and strip down either side.

Do the same with the remaining outer fingers. Giving 3 planks along grain lines

Really appreciate any input, I don't want to stuff it up.

    cheers Bob

Been rethinking this. Should I remain parallel to the RHS edge to keep "marbling" intact?

    Default Option 2

I prefer option 2... most of the fiddle-back & feature grain, is in that RH side - I'd stay parallel with the RHS and use the piece the other side of the split where the branch forked off to make into legs and rails etc for supporting a coffee table top, made from the RHS...

But that's just me - others mileage may vary.

    Thanks Timless

I am only making desktop items such as you see on top of the slab.

But yeh I reconise the importance of geting the feature out with least damage.

I am so keen on seeing products from this!

    Gday guys

Just an update. Cut as stated. Ran a 500 mm piece through the thicknesser then made this.
