    Default Cutting Table

In the video below, a gentleman uses (seemingly) a 4x8 sheet under his material, to support it.

I would like to make something similar. Of course, this would be extremely easy and I don't need help.

What I would like to know is, can I use 2x4s for a frame, and not need the top table?

Or, if I do use the top table, should I cut out the center so I can clamp smaller pieces, too?

And if so, where should I put the cuts? etc.

The top needs to be able to separate from the legs, and lighter is better.

    Any advice appreciated.

    Thanks.

He is cutting on a sheet of 50mm foam. This supports the entire sheet being cut, regardless of thickness and stops it sagging away from the track and saw between supports. Tolerates a fair number of cuts and hangs together quite well. Avoids the need to shuffle the board around to ensure the cut line is well supported.

If you are working with thickish material that doesn't sag you can do something similar on a timber skeleton frame, but regard it as sacrificial as it will start to collapse once it gets a few kerf cuts in a small area.
