Dado blade for Makita
Hi All,
I've never used a dado blade before - but have a project coming up where I need one.
Can anyone tell me if I can put a dado blade on my Makita MLT100 and the best place to pick them up (in Sydney metro) please?
Thanks
Geoff

A dado blade can be used with the MLT100 but since the motor uses bushings rather than bearings (so I am told, anyway) I would stick to the adjustable wobble type dado head which is lighter in weight than the larger head comprised of side cutters, chippers and spacing shims. Also I would use a smaller diameter dado head such as a 6" or 7" as opposed to going any larger diameter. Also note that in some countries dado heads have been outlawed making it difficult to buy one.

WOW... why are they banned in some countries? I've found a 16mm bit for my router that will do the job now.
thanks for the reply though ido.

You certainly can't buy one here in the UK. It's all to do with not being able to fit a wide enough Riving knife and other over zealous H&S issues.

Hey garfield, I know this is an old thread but im just wondering how you went with getting a dado blade in your MLT100 table saw? I am thinking of getting one soon and would like to get one with a dado capability.

since the old thread has already been dug up, i'm curious about this statement. I've only ever seen dado sets used for trenching - how (or why) would you use a dado setup with a suitably wide knife? (ie why cut a massive full depth cut when you could make a narrow one? Is there some fabulous new technique I can learn about?
