Dado Set Recommendation (30mm bore)
Hi WWF,
Does anyone have a recommendation on a 8” dado set that won’t break the bank?
I tried Timbecon’s Toquata set however they left cats ears on entry and exit so were of no value to me.
I was speaking to the guys at Peacock saws and they have their own sets that are manufactured in China that they speak very highly about. The sales assistant didn’t know what cats ears were so I am not sure if that is a good or bad sign. They were selling a one inch set pretty much identical in spec to the Torquata’s for just over $200 sound they sound promising. I cant find any info or reviews of them online.

Seems like all dad sets create bat ears which seems odd to me. How do you get around this?
Read an article that suggests 6” is all you need.

I bought a CMT 30mm Dado set and had brake pin holes drilled into it for my sliding table saw and it left a terrible result on the bottom of the cut. I got it re-sharpened and the diameter of the blades and cutters machined to the same diameter and it is now simply awesome.

The Peacock saws IVA dado set is excellent and very well priced.
No bats ears and a very nice cut.

I had a set of these but they weren't compatible with Sawstop's braking technology and had to sell it. Expensive but perfect flat bottoms and sides. One of the best out there!

Hi Barri. Do you know if the Freud SD508 is available in Aus to suit a 30mm arbor? This is one of the one's that I have been looking for.

No only 5/8" unfortunately.
I guess you could buy multiple 30mm to 5/8" bushings but I'd be a little nervous doing that on a dado stack in case one of them came loose. In terms of Sawstop and its braking technology I'd be even more nervous.
BTW Timbecon sell a stack with a 30mm bore but I can't comment on the quality of the cuts.

I had a Carbatec TS with the 30mm arbor and bought a 5/8" Dado set. I went to ACE (details below) and they bored out the centre to 30mm for me and did a great job. I also take my blades there for sharpening.
