    Default David Charlesworth

You may have heard that David, one of my favourite woodworking writers fell ill while teaching in Germany recently.
Here's some more info if you are interested, as well as a suggestion as to how each of us can help him at this time

    Cheers

However, you may not know that David was scheduled to speak and demonstrate at the recent Woodworking in America conference but withdrew at the last minute due to ill health.

The following, originally posted by Rob Cosman on WoodCentral, gives some background to David's illness:
David was teaching in Germany and during such was not feeling well. Was advised to go to the hospital but wanted instead to finish his class.
He got sicker and when he did go to the hospital, they admitted him and started the process of treating him. He was unable to breathe on his on, due to severe respitory illness.
As of October 6, David has been in Germany for 3 weeks and they are trying to get him well enough to transport him back to a hospital in England. Due to the seriousness of his illness, David's wife/partner Pat was summoned to Munich towards the end of September.

Rob Cosman's take on this is that David's illness has been a life or death situation for most of the time.

It is only in the past few days that David has started to come around to where they have him breathing on his on with the help of oxygen. He is very weak and confused. Pat is with him and now able to comunicate.

The WoodCentral community is trying to help relieve the financial burden, David like most of us needs to work. He derives his income from teaching and his DVDs and books. For those who don't know, online theft, illegal downloads, are destroying the instructional DVD and book business. Many in society we still don't think it is wrong to steal intellectual property.

You can help if you like by donating thru paypal to [email protected] -- this is John Lovell, David's assistant -- the funds will go to David and Pat.
You can also help by purchasing David's books or DVDs thru his site www.davidcharlesworth.com

    cheers
    Rob

    Default Update Wednesday, October 12th

    From John (David's assistant) through Rob Cosman;
The doctors had David up walking for the first time today (October 12). Weak as you can well imagine but this is all part of the road to recovery. The intent was to air ambulance him back to the UK today but the doctors want him to be more mobile before this happens. Support has been great as they have had to order more books from the publishers, always a good sign. Cheers to all you supporters of David out there for an outstanding effort of donations and book orders, please keep it coming…Blessings!

Default Update February 15 -- Good news

Over the last couple of days I've exchanged emails with the people who work with David Charlesworth in Hartford.

The news is very good, I quote:

David is recovering well, and will be teaching again at the beginning of May.

He has written something for the blog and hopefully John [Lovell, webmaster and general man Friday] will be able to put it on the website in the next few days.
    Kind regards,
    Theresa

    Default David's back with us

    from his blog My Blog

    The Phoenix……
Rob did such a good job of telling everyone how ill I was, that I am now faced with the opposite problem of informing you all, how well I am.

Time, clean living and no smoking, are doing their stuff. I am well on the way back to full strength. A huge thank you to everyone for the astonishing amount of support I received. It was overwhelming and greatly appreciated.

Short courses will start in late April and next winters 12 week courses will proceed as usual.
    regards from Alberta, Canada
