Hi Kidbee, Not a great deal, this is one thing, still in on the go, I'm getting good at making the hoops but in turn equally as good at snapping them.
I need to go through the stash and find something with some straight grain, it is Atlantic cedar and its a mongrel for this type of work, but it's what I had on hand, I'll get back to it soon and get it finished,
Thought I'd start with something simple its about 380mm high and 300mm dia at the top, all done mimicking the original video that prompted all this(thanks Derek for posting). I think i have spent more time making tools to do it rather than making it(i.e croze tool) but it's all good fun been plenty of shavings, in search of a scorp if anyone has one they are prepared to part with for the right price but i'm being a little particular in its design. I'm after something similar to Reudi's.
Thanks for your interest. be interesting to see if it holds water.

Thanks mate! I'll be happy if I can get the hoops on out of the same timber.

    Hi all,
Just thought I'd continue on with this thread, I may have previously mentioned the kids have expressed some interest in wood turning, So here's a little of what went on today in the shed.
I set up a small lathe for them a little Vicmarc 100. Not yet set up perfectly. I want it to be fun for them so a good quality lathe and sharp good quality chisels are what is needed, I know first hand not having decent quality takes the joy out of not only turning but any woodwork in general.

As this is recognized as part of their home schooling through DECV (Distance Education Centre Victoria) I thought I would make up a little test also.

So here is the 3 girls making their first spinning tops. Unfortunately didn't get a pic of the Boy who will be five soon.
    They all passed the test.

I like the test and also the last question. I hope part of the answer is enclosed footwear. Dropped tools hurt, not to mention the damage to the tool.
