Red Cedar

Hello all,

I have restored a nice Ozzie red cedar cabinet that had a former life a long time ago as a chest of 7? drawers. It came covered in thick white paint no drawers instead someone had fitted shocking ratty doors and the plinth had gone.

All has been restored very nicely

, i have removed the ratty doors or what was left of them and added cedar doors that are a good colour match so it now looks like an old stationary cupbourd, although not having extensive stocks of aged cedar i am not really happy with the colour of the plinth - it is a bit too 'red' rather than the yellowy colour of aged cedar.

Any suggestions on how to 'age' the plinth more sucessfully?. I have tried applying some of the old shellac - removed from other areas of the cabinet which was under the paint but this was only partly successful.

I work with ceader mostly and find that when you wish to age it put it outdoors and allow the moister and weather get to it then when you think that it is the colour that you desire bring it back in clean it up and use it, it works for me.

you may want to weather it for at least 2 weeks.
