Dead Trees
Hello All
I've got some questions regarding dead trees that are still standing.
If the tree has been dead for a long time ( more than 2 or 3 years ) would it be considered dry.
-Could you use it for a project straight away.
-In the absence of bark and foliage how would you tell what it is. It is a gum of some sorts.
I am into slabs and rustic stuff and find the 1 to 2 year wait from green a bit too long term.
Also a bit too tight to go spend big money on something that I might stuff up.
I have read hundreds of posts but could not find any on this subject.
Would value your input
Andrew

Andrew,
A standing dead tree will still contain far more moisture than you would want. It would still require drying to bring it to equalibrium moisture content. This would mean stickering the sawn timber to allow even air flow through the stack to dry the timber. Normally about a year per inch thickness.
