How to deal with hairline cracks in some Rock Maple panels - help please
Hi all,
it's been quite some time since I've posted and happily, I'm back in the my beloved woodworking shed after producing 2 great little kids (I'm sure there's a better way to phrase that...). In fact, my wife just gave me a list of "to do's" - almost all the items were woodworking related! Joys!!
Anyway - that's a bit off-topic.
One item on her list was to build and finish (two separate things...) the cupboard doors (frame and panel) for my 3yr old boy's built-ins. They are New Guinea Rosewood frames with book-matched Canadian Rock Maple floating panels. I've made and sanded the panels and have seen some hairline splits appear in the maple which I don't want to show in the finished product. My intention is to oil them with Danish Oil and so the question is - how to repair these fine cracks without compromising the oil finish? Should I use sanding sealer, Titebond etc?? I'm a tad flummoxed at this point!
Any help will be greatly appreciated.
Many regards,
David (Sydney, Australia)

Wood putty of the appropriate colour will pretty much disappear in hairline cracks.

Just out of interest, has the Rock Maple stayed fairly white, or has it yellowed at all with age? Just curious 'cos I use it a fair bit, and all mine seems to stay white (so far). Wondering if it is likely to stay like that.
Either way, it should be easy to mix up Timbermate to match the colour. White + Pine can provide a range of off-white/cream shades.
