Anybody dealt with Dieter Schmid
Has anybody here dealt with Dieter Schmid from Germany before? I've eyed out a couple a things though i'm as tight as a cat's a... (i think you know what i mean) when it comes to giving out my credit card details. I've checked that the place actually exists by using the german phone book, and as far as i can tell he seems pretty legit. I originally heard about the site (www.fine-tools.com) from these forums and i know one bloke has ordered from there, but it would be good to know if there are others and if there have been any complaints. Another thing i've been thinking of is to contact the german equivalent of the ACCC and asking them if this mobs legit. How would i go about doing that?
Any ideas, any suggestions, any spelling corrections and just anything would be greatly appreciated.
thanks folks.

Yup - I had no problems and was (still am!) satisfied with the couple of chisels I bought. The price was way better than anywhere else at the time (couple of years ago) including postage . They gave a prompt and courteous reply to my initial query. They have a 'secure' payment site - so far I haven't had any extras on my credit card - so certainly no negatives.
Peter Hemsley in UK is also a good bloke to deal with - answers emails personally and even 'special-ordered' something for me a couple of months back. None of the local suppliers I emailed asking about it bothered to reply.
Cheers,IW

Thanks folks for the good advice. It's good to know that he's legit coz he's got a few nice products. Another place of interest from germany is Dick fine tools (www.dick-gmbh.de), they are a little bit more expensive and they mainly specialize in fine tools, especially japanese tools, but seem like a good place none the less. I odered their printed catalogue and it arrived in about a week at most, so that was pretty good. Might order from them in the future aswell, depending how much the budget can stretch.
thanks again. nik.

You, and other here have to understand that Germans have incredibly high level of bussines morrality. I use to live overthere (I'm not German)and you as a customer are protected by German law and financial police which is part of the "Finansamt" (a sort of taxation office but far more complicated) and acordingly to them if any of the bussiness gets more than three (by the numbers - 3) complaints approved to be true owner is loosing a licence to do the bussines for life. So beleive me as far as you are satisfied with the price and "small letters on the botom of the page" you can have sweet dreams. They will, they shall, they have to and they must make you a satisfied customer. I use to live in many countries around the world but I haven't seen so high level of profesionalism as Germans have. Anyhow I wouldn't recomend giving credit card number over the net not because of them but because of hackers. They know how to crack many thing.
So have a nice shopping

Thanks for the info Alex, I've always had alot of respect for the Germans and the way they do things. Probrobly because of the way I've been brought up and the fact that I come from German stock (amongst other stock like most of us in Australia) but that thing about the 3 complaints is new news to me and i think it's a great idea and it makes me very confident to order items of all sorts from Germany. I'm certain that there are some businesses in Australia that have had more than 3 complaints lodged against them and nothing has been done about it, so I think we should incorporate something along those lines here. Unless of course there is a similar thing in place in which you should just ignore what i was just talking about.
Thanks again for the very helpfull advice.

Nik, my dear friend
Please, don't get me wrong. I didn't say any kind of complaints. If sales person didn't say "Guten tag" with nice smile that cannot be accepted as a complaint but missuse of your credit card number is a serious offence and owner can finish in jail up to 15 years(I have, because of you, contacted my brother in law, he lives in Hannover and those are a latest informations). That's the main reason why everyone or almost everyone behaves in a right manner. Even a traffic fines are (for Australians) - draconian but they have had a lots of problemes and they solved them, but that is not a problem of this forum so....... again
Have a nice shopping
