    Default Decking on raised concrete

    Hi all

Near my front door I have a raised step (concrete slab) abt 2.5m x 1m Ok I want to add a deck on top of it. Some advise please on what timber to use? I want to actual deck to be merbau so it's really what do I sit this on. I dont want to raise it too much, obviously as there's not too much to work with height wise.

I also want to put a L-shape step around the perimeter as an additional step will be required as it will be quite a large step, without it; hopefully this is understood.

The area is undercover, but where I want to put the step will get the rain.

    Any help appreciated, thx.

Dynabolt (or similar) timber cleats or bearers (100 x 50 on side) to the concrete then nail down the deck as per normal. You can drill and use spaghetti also depending on the thickness of cleats or bearers used. Use treated pine timber or something similarly rot resistant for the cleats spaced 450 centres. You don't want the water to pool between them. There are some adhesives that are available (Sikaflex) that will help the cleats stay put but fasteners should be used too.
