I agree. I have had a tablsaw with a universal motor, a Ryobi Thicknesser with one and now have the Sherwood spiral head Thicknesser with one and they have all been loud. Yes the spiral head will cut down the cutting noise a little but that is already lower than the motor noise especially when the straight knives are sharp. So as Elan says, unless you get a machine with an induction motor there will be no reduction in noise when in use.

I have the same Carbatec combination machine as you have pictured, been using it on a house here on the river, it’s very quiet and efficient, for home garage use, it’s a perfect machine. Changing from one function to the other is a 1 minute process.
