Default Our Derek is World Famous ...

From page 30 of the December 2011 Issue of Furniture & Cabinetmaking (a UK mag)
"A swift Google search brings up Derek Cohen's excellent Australian site (www.inthewoodshop.com) which is an absolute treasure trove on how to construct a ramped shooting bopard as well as a vast amount of other hand tool related stuff as well."

"It would be an interesting project to make one of Derek's really posh ramped shooting boards"

    (my emphasis)
    Derek
let me thank you again for having the passion and skill to share your woodworking adventures and insightes.
    regards from Alberta, Canada

Derek's input to this forum and others stretches back over years. His posts are based on sound experience and are valued by we other forum members because they enrich our woodworking knowledge, and often open our eyes to other possibilities in the craft we all love.
A big congrats from me as well as my thanks.
    Recognition well deserved

Come on Ian, tell us something new. We already knew he was World famous.

OK, we did not know that there was that article in the UK mag. Well spotted and well worthy of the post to highlight it. Onya mate.

And yes, Derek's site is a great website with so much detail, detail that a lot of sites leave out.

I honestly do not know how Derek finds the time to write up his work which in itself is a significant effort as anybody that also has a full week in a regular job can atest to.

So well done Derek, a great many people appreciate your website and your contributions to the various forums around the world. You carry on with all things wood while most of us sleep at night.

I guess I should get my Derek Cohen Marking Knife signed now before he is too famous.

    Cheers

    Ditto.
Well done Derek. You have been an inspiration to many especially those of us who have had the honour of attending you sharpening workshops.

Derek's debate with WW was a very enlightening episode. Pity the UK journal didn't give that a mention.

Gad, I am at a loss for words (which is a first ).

Thank you all for your very kind comments. The website is a two-way street. I get such pleasure when someone uses the material there, and gains some enthusiasm to try something.

    Thanks again.

    Regards from Perth

Having just tried Mr Cohen's technique for cutting tenon shoulders, can I just say "All Hail King Derek"!

(However - Derek, could you please consider changing the Comic Sans on your website to something a little more refined? It really does look quite out of place )

Hi Stu, I had a look on Derek's site but too much other stuff to get side tracked onto, which is good but there's only so much time the intention was to go to the tenon cutting technique straight up but nothing was obvious, are you able to direct me so I may have a look?

http://www.inthewoodshop.com/Furnitu...ndMortice.html, about 2/3rds down the page.

It's a stupidly simple technique of undercutting the shoulder line with a chisel to create a small fence to guide the saw. Works brilliantly and addresses the main area I was having trouble with in cutting tenons.
