    Default Derek's Brace

    Open letter to Derek Cohen,

Loved the Brace in Australian Wood Review Derek, congrats on the prize, well deserved. Any chance of a write up on the process you used to make it?

    Hi Yowie

The pics on my website are of version #1. That went to the Wood Central Tool Competition, held in 2007. I received an Honourable Mention, which I really felt honoured to receive. See for yourself, the winners were just awesome.

I gave that brace away as a gift, and when asked by AWR to submit a tool for their comp, I decided to make another one, this time to keep for myself. For this - version #2 - I made a few modifications and used different timbers. The basic design was kept.

I did keep a record of the build, and so I can (and will) put together a more complete article. I'll post links here when it is done. There is article I am presently putting together first, which will also go into the FWW blog, on building wood hinges with handtools.

    Here a few images ..

    Regards from Perth

    Hi Derek,

What they said. Just love that She Oak. Well done.

When I saw the magazine cover I thought somebody had made a copy of your original one, somebody had, you.

Congratulations on the win and the Marcou write -up too.

    Cheers

Finally got the Australian Wood Review with Derek's brace in the wooden tools competition. Congratulations Derek and all the other competitors.

I think that if I was judging a competition with such an incredibly high standard and diverse range of entries then I would have to use the entrants in my shed for three or four years before deciding. No rushed decisions.

Again, congratulations Derek and all the other winners.

    Cheers

    Graeme
