    Default A few designing Questions...

Hi, im not sure if this is a question to be posting on this forum, but this is the only place i could find.

I have a few questions for revision for my Industrial Furniture Class.

    The questions are ,

    1. "Name 5 ways of obtaining ideas for design?"

    2. "Name 5 factors to consider when esigning?"

4 "Name 5 factors to consider when planning a project?"

    5. "Why is it importand for designers to be able to construct and read working drawings?"

Any help i can get from anyone on answering these questions will be greatly appreciated.

    Thanks to all, in advance

    1. Ask the same question on 5 different forums

    2. Do the forum responses come from
    a. experienced woodies
    b. from designers
    c. from architects
    d. from imitators
    e. from d*** heds

    4. a. Can you afford it
    b. Is someone else paying
    c. have they paid a good deposit
    d. are they very fussy
    e. when will you get paid in full

    5. So if some clod asks a technical question you can bamboozle them with science.

You're right it isn't. We don't normally do other people's home work.

BTW what happened to question 3. ?

    Hi Fudge,

    Let's rephrase the question/s:

    1. You need to design a storage unit to hold a flat screen TV and all associated peripherals. How would you go about finding out ideas/inspiration???

    2. How do you design your unit in (1) to ensure that it meets the needs of the client - colour/stability/... ... ...?

    4. You're planning to build the thing. What do you need to worry about??

    5. Surely you can answer this one.

Trust that this helps you figure things out.

    Cheers,

    eddie

Thanks mate. least you give me some sort of help.

It was pretty obvious that it was work for school...not homework, as i said it was revision work for my INDUSTRIAL FURNATURE CLASS, the intellegent responses of restating that fact were so helpfull.

    Obviously missed Q3

Researching on the web is a valid method of finding answers.

    Fudge,
Do not believe anything posted on this forum - we are a bunch of crazy people and some of us think it is entirely normal to be in love with your table saw. Maybe we shouldn't go any further with that idea.

I also think you teacher probably wants to know what YOU think about these and not what someone else thinks. Believe it or not?

Howdy Fudge, not everyone on the forum is so stuck-up they wont help you out. The majority are realy nice blokes (and Gals)

My response to question one with out to much thought its -

    • Study up on design style/periods/makers through out history.
    • Icons - very important
    • Plagiarise and modify on paper the ideas of the new and old time masters (dont directly copy - you will be found out)
    • learn to sketch and keep pen/paper with you all the time, in your pocket, in the glovebox, in the dunny, beside your bed - everywhere. (best ever book to learn from "Freehand Perspective Drawing - Steve Rubeck. Black Swan Press)
    • Keep a scrap book of anything and everything that takes your fancy and sketch interpretations.
    • Sketch, sketch and more sketching.
    • Keep your designs simple and pleasing to the eye, and dont assume that every design will be "it" the masterpeice to beat all masterpeices.
    • Most importantly, remember - You cant reinvent the wheel.
Once you have a better understanding of question two, as in - Form and Function, voids, negative space, symetry, ballance, harmony, blah, blah, blah in thourough detail, then question one will become a lot clearer and easier to understand and achieve

I appreciate your respones BobL and Lignum.

I actually try searching via the web, but i didnt find anything that was of use, anyone would search the web before taking the time to join and forum and have to put up with half you blokes ####.

Even the few ideas i did have about answering the questions, i didnt bother to write in the first post because i didnt want to make the post anymore bigger and boring that it already was, so i didnt bother, i just thought i could get at least a couple responses to the questions to help me out a bit.

I wouldnt expect those kind of replies from aussie blokes, and especially of your age, i would expect that from a bunch of 16 Y.O's... very dissapointing

Actually if you had a look around here it is a fairly typical response. Your question was very short and left a lot of ambiguity as to your desires. Take the time and have a good look around here. You will find this site one of the best resources for woodworking support on the web.

Maybe you should've written longer questions and described more about your situation so that members knew your exact intentions. There have been a lot of people come here being extremely misleading and covert in their intentions so it comes down to "once bitten, twice shy" for a lot of the senior members.
And you did get the couple of responses that you wanted!
Have a nice day - Cheers

    Hi Fudge,

Let's try a different way of helping you reach your answers.

How about you put up the draft of your answers and see what else we can give you to think about so the end answer is still your own?

    I'm willing

    Cheers
    Wendy
