Device sought to limit spread of trestle legs
Having just made a couple of folding trestles, I'm trying locate a source of the type of hinged device which will limit the spread of the legs. They're often found on small kitchen stepladders.
Can anyone point me in the right direction?

OK not the gismos you requested but this is how I did mine.
Table2.jpg
The table is a special to hold my 35kg chain saw mill while servicing and re-fueling etc- the plastic caps act as sockets to allow the mill legs to sit inside them sos the engine can run at full RPM during tuning without it vibrating its way off the table

"Card table stay"
"Trestle leg stay"
"Trestle leg hinge"
There are plenty of options depending upon application, from light to heavy duty industrial applications. Simple folding stay trough to industrial self limiting H/D hinges. It is easy to make a DIY strap stay from stock flat sections of steel or aluminium, and a couple of bolts - but please use nyloc's to secure the bolts. Don't want any oopsies!
Gyprock Trade - Intex Hinged Steel Trestle
One version - Heavy Duty Card Table Stay 160mm ZP (romak.com.au) - Search results for: 'table stay' (romak.com.au)
Another option on a slightly different tack - Folding bracket, folding, for tables and benches, folding table fittings - in the Häfele Australia Shop (hafele.com.au)
Can't find these on the AU site - Aluminium Ladder and Trestle castings from Ullrich Aluminium (ullrich-aluminium.co.nz)Mobyturns

Thanks Elan, a piece of light chain or a knotted rope were the first choice and possibly more compatible with the original design of a 19th century military campaign desk.
Spot on, havabeer! I found the problem with Google searches related to identifying a name which would filter out the irrelevant dross.

Cord is Traditional
Simplest, cheapest and easiest is a length of 5 mm cord - like that used for window sash cords. You can get it by the metre from Bunnings or any yacht chandlery; braided is best.
Just drill a hole one size larger than the cord through each bottom rail. Thread the cord through, tie a stop knot; that's it.
Been used since medievil times!

As said some old rope does fine. Pair I made back in the early 80tes are still doing the job.
