Default Disappointing Results From Resawing Timber

Well I purchased some timber today from a new supplier for a project that I have on. There were four boards of what I think is black box that were P.A.R. at 900mm long. I was tossing up if I should get them or not given they were more expensive than the other timber that I was buying .... but in the end I just got them.

The intention was to resaw on the bandsaw to give around 10mm boards. When I was cleaning them up I noticed slightly inconsistent grain pattern but it was very close. It was only a small section down the bottom so I assumed that they must have been butt joined (quite a good job) and given the grain and colour matching were quite good I didn't see much of a problem.

It wasn't until I had finished resawing that I came across the problem. While I can work around the biscuits it is very frustrating and I shouldn't have purchased the boards.

Its not a huge issue but it would have been good to know that they were not full boards before I purchased them. Not much I can do now and a little unsure if I should bother expressing my disappointment with the seller.

Other than that ..... good day in the new shed. First time that the neighbours have had to cope with the Stink in full force with the table saw, bandsaw, thicknesser and dust extractor going most afternoon (no complaints which is good) .

I am not able to comment on this and so will be watching to see what people think.

Sounds like the new supplier might need some personal counselling.

As you can see it must have been board #3 (either from left or right) that I noticed the change in grain and colour ..... not as obvious on the outside. The other boards are quite a good match.

It should be said that the supplier sells a lot of recycled timbers, mostly floorboards and decking. They also laminate together benchtops etc to order so I guess these boards were offcuts.

I don't think it would be a regular thing as I did get the only four boards I could find but even so its a bit rough to be paying good money for joined boards. It would have been fine if I wasn't trying to resaw

Annoying to say the least. I certainly would not have been happy about it.

I would not be happy at all.
Give the supplier a ring and see if he is willing to make ammends. He can only say no and then you don't ever have to go back.
Those were the droids I was looking for.

I know it doesn't help but I am so glad you didn't find it when sanding the finished article. Interested to see what they say if you go back to them
    Cheers,

As said above tell the supplier you are not happy, he may offer a discout or similar, if not tell him that neither you or any of you friends will darken his door again, as he should know one unhappy customer will tell nine friends and they will tell nine friends and so on and so on.
Most likley he sold it in good faith and was not aware and will offer something

I agree with China, the supplier may not have known so give them the benefit of the doubt and a chance to make good the problem.

Depends on what it was sold as, I guess. If it was sold as recycled, I guess you have to take your chances - the supplier may not have noticed either. If it was sold as new, well, it's obviously not.
In any case, discuss it with your supplier, see what he says.
