Default Dishwasher to clean sawblades and router bits

This isnt a joke thread but has anyone ever tried putting their saw blades and router bits in the dishwasher to clean?

I have been using caustic soda after reading about it here and it works really well but still takes a bit of effort - I figure it woks cause its caustic which is basically what dishwashing powder/tablets are... wondered if it works lol

Oh Lord. I did that ONCE. SWMBO let me know for a couple of years afterward that the dishwasher is not the place for shop equipment.

There was a product 2010 from CMT. Worked very well. Lately I've been using Simple Green. I dilute it somewhat and spray it from a previously empty Windex bottle. Then I'll rinse the blade in the driveway with the garden hose. Wrap the blades in an old terry towel and then air dry.

Rich, you probably already know this but I must say that your "crime" was not using the dishwasher, it was getting caught!

Haven't tried it but wouldn't rust be a problem?

You can buy cheap single bench top ones. Or tons 2nd hand ones on ebay. For $300 maybe try it out.

Hows the simple green? Does it come off as easy as the CMT cleaner?

With caustic soda, most of it dissolves instantly, then needs a wipe for the really caked on stuff. If simple green is similar, it would be nicer to use that as caustic soda is nasty stuff

After rinsing in the driveway, I wipe with lacquer thinner or denatured alcohol. They tend to absorb water and then evaporate it off. Although Acetone is supposed to be the ultimate in absorbing water. Acetone is one of the few chemicals that CARB has not declared war on. The others are increasingly more difficult to find in California.

I have never had to do it, but I have read previously to use spray on oven cleaner. They are caustic but from memory the guys said it worked a treat.

Ok blokes. Beat on me as necessary.

Household bleach is little more than chlorine assimilated into a solution of caustic soda or lye. The way that we make bleach is to bubble chlorine into a solution of sodium hydroxide. A simple process that becomes 'Bleach". Swimming pool chlorine is just 3 times the concentration of bleach. Bleach is 5¼% while swimming pool chlorine is 14% to 16%. Lye is sodium hydroxide as known by chemists.

I worked at a place where we made the poop. One of the worst jobs that I ever had.
