Since I've only ever used Aquadhere (normal or exterior) I'm not up on the nuances of glue.

One thing I noticed in the quote about Titebond III was the bit about water resistance. I've seen it said that biscuits, for example, depend on water in the glue to swell, locking a joint in place. Does this mean that poly-glues won't work in applications like this?

Ron, next time you need some glue I would suggest you get some Triton glue. It has been my glue of choice for years, it is the so-called yellow glue. First time I used it I decided that I would never go back to Aquadhere.

And it works great with dowels and biscuits, don't know about Dominos, I don't own one of those.

Yeah I've heard that too about poly glues

The water resistance of Titebond III is when it dries, when the glue is used on biscuits it still absorbs into and swells the biscuits, after all it is a liquid.

Have cut open (not always deliberately) biscuits glued with Titebond III and they have swollen into slot quite well.

This rates up with not using degreasers to clean a motor because you will damage the oil in your engine.

You can extend the shelf life indefinitely by sloshing a little mineral spirits on top of it in the bottle.

You're right Ron. These people will make metric compressed dowels for you, not sure of the price yet. http://www.laurierwoodcraft.com/index.html

Lee Valley has the non-metrix expansible dowels at good prices too

Hope I don't have to buy a set of imperial guides to use 'em...

Titebond 111 is sensational with end grain glueing, but it sux with Blackwood as it turnes it green.

AV180 is my choice. Great alround glue thats just about standard in the cabinetmaking industry.

Hey is there some rule here about not linking to other sites on the internet? Someone (Watson?) deleted a post of mine here because I linked to another forum. What's going on? Whassup, Watson?

US-Oz, don't worry, you don't need 'em. Haron dowels work just fine. If you want to buy in bigger quantities try Timbecon or Elraco.

yes, there are yellow glues and then there is AVSyntec 180. I have used other yellow glues such as Crodafix 559 and they just arent the same. AVS 180 is the king and is industry standard. I glued up a lectern last week using AVS180 and 6 layers of 1.5mm ply. It curved around on itself 3 times with a diameter of 150mm (on the curve) and each length of ply was 2000mm long. After a few days in the form to cure, it came out beautifully and held its shape brilliantly.

Also have tried many glues on the rare(ish) Amazonian Snakewood, and the only one which was completely succesfully was AV180.

Well, Noel, I read your rules in the rules forum twice and saw nothing about links to other forums being disallowed. But I'm tired tonight and probably missed it.

It probably means I'll stop posting here if it's true, because the only reason for a rule like that would be to prevent the other site gaining readers or Google ranking, and that sort of thing just sickens me as it's against the whole spirit of the Internet.

    Gonna ban me now, Noel?
